Our Top 5 Spring Cleaning Supplies

It’s spring cleaning season! Maybe it’s just us, but as the weather gets warmer, the urge to clean, organize, and purge all of the stuff that has accumulated throughout the long winter rises. We spoke with Wellness Manager Dimitri about their top 5 picks for spring cleaning supplies available at the St. Peter Food Co-op.

1. Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Liquid Soap

This as our #1 go-to product because it is so versatile. The label on the bottle boasts 18 different uses, including dishes, hand soap, body soap, shampoo, countertop cleaner, and mopping your floors! “I like to make my own hand soap using the Dr. Bronner’s liquid soap,” says Dimitri. “I just do 1-part soap to 1-part filtered water and then I also add a few drops of essential oil to make it extra smelly. Then I put it in a foaming hand pump dispenser. It’s so easy (and cheap)!” At the St. Peter Food Co-op, Peppermint and Baby (unscented) are the two customer favorites. 2. Mrs. Meyer’s Hand Soap

These are a favorite around the Co-op. Along with their variety of staple scents, Mrs. Meyers offers special edition scents ever winter and spring, so be sure to catch ’em all! The spring 2022 special scents are: Lilac, Rose, and Fresh Mint. From Dimitri: “These are so fun and also make a great gift. I like to bring them to family gatherings as a host gift.” Read more about Mrs. Meyers Hand Soap.

3. Pranarom’s Good Samaritan Essential Oil Blend

Have you ever heard of “thieves oil?” The reference dates back to the Middle Ages, when people used oils to keep the bubonic plague away. Yes, it’s kind of a morbid story, but the blend of oils is still used today as a purifying and naturally anti-bacterial oil. Just about every brand of essential oil company has a version of the thieves oil. Pranarom’s version is called Good Samaritan, featuring a blend of cinnamon, lemon, eucalyptus, rosemary, and clove. “You can add it to your cleaners, diffuse it into the air, or dilute and dab it onto your ski,” says Dimitri (this is the essential oil they use in their homemade hand soap referenced above). 4. Herbal Beauty Room & Body Sprays – LOCAL PRODUCER

The St. Peter Food Co-op carries four scents: Sweet Vanilla, Relaxing Lavender, Refreshing Peppermint, and Spicy Woodlands. Learn more about Herbal Beauty.

5. Bass Shower Flower

Sorry to break it to you, but according to Women’s Health, loofahs need to be replaced frequently—every 3-4 weeks for natural and every two months for plastic. Spring is the perfect time to start with a clean slate and a fresh new pouf. At the St. Peter Food Co-op, we carry the Bass Shower Flower, featuring an ultra-dense, mesh weave made with 100% esthetician grade nylon that will gently exfoliate, stimulate circulation and thoroughly clean the skin.
