Bring on the Chills: 5 Tempting Treats For A Scorching Summer
It’s the middle of July and it’s H-O-T. Tired of opening the freezer door and sticking your face inside? Give these five tempting treats a shot, all designed to keep you cool during this scorcher of a summer.
Kombucha Pops
Yeah, we said it. If it’s liquid, why not freeze it? This low-sugar twist is perfect for the whole family. Blend fruit and herbs in with your favorite flavor of kombucha before pouring it all into ice pop molds. Bonus! Health-Ade Organic Kombucha is on sale (2/$5) through July 30, so now is the time to stock up and fill your freezer with delicious treats!
Mango Sorbet
You don’t have to go fancy to get your sorbet on. Throw a bag of frozen Woodstock Organic Diced Mango (on sale now at 2/$7) into the food processor with a teaspoon of freshly squeezed lime juice and blend until smooth. Dairy-free, no added sugar, and ready in 10 minutes or less—leaving you with plenty of time for a refreshing dip in the pool.
Coconut Water & Blueberry Pops
Are you picking up a case of premium Michigan blueberries later this week? If you didn’t pre-order, don’t worry—we’ll have plenty available at the Co-op! Once you’ve had your fill of cobbler and pie (ha ha, impossible), why not give those ice pop molds another go and try a coconut water and blueberry popsicle? Just plop some (washed) berries into the mold, fill it up with your favorite brand of coconut water, and stick the whole thing in the freezer. A few hours later, when the sun reaches its peak, you’ll be the hit of the party. 33.8oz Vita Coco Coconut Water is on sale now for 2/$6 and for every Vita Coco item sold, $1 will be donated to help build a classroom for students in the Philippines. #PayItForward & #CoolItDown all while supporting your favorite local Co-op!
Frozen Lemonade
Skip the store-bought Slushie and make your own. Santa Cruz Organic Lemonade is on sale for 2/$3 this month. Freeze it in an extra ice cube tray, blitz the cubes in your heavy-duty blender for a minute or two, then cheers (just watch the brain freeze). Want something a little fancier? Think: drink umbrellas; lemon slice garnish; sprig of mint or basil. YUM!
Ice Cold Blueberries
Yes… we’re back to blueberries. Did you know they’re even more delicious as a summer snack when they’re frozen? You still get all of the same antioxidants but now with additional cooling powers. We recommend not washing your berries before freezing, as the extra moisture may cause them to stick and become freezer burned. You can always rinse the frozen berries off in a colander before using if you want to. Besides popping them right into our mouths (mmmm), we love using them as colorful ice cube replacements for summer cocktails and mocktails!
